Around the tracks: Porsche Taycan colours, an enviable 15-car garage and Suzuki’s bold claim
Plus, a destroyed 997 and wallets in classic automotive prints.
When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.
Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.
Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?
1. This Porsche 997 GT3 RS destroyed in the Los Angeles riots
With America in turmoil over the police killing of black man George Floyd, protesters have taken to the streets to call for justice and an end to systemic racism and police brutality.
One symbolic image that's circulating amongst car enthusiast circles is that of a Porsche 997 parked in Beverly Hills believed to be destroyed by rioters.
The photos were shared to Instagram account @supercar.fails, where it was identified as a 911 GT3 RS – while many commenters argued that it appeared to be a regular 911 with a body kit.
Subsequent unofficial CarAdvice investigations (aka office chats) have resulted in publisher and Porsche aficionado James Ward declaring it an American-spec 997 GT3 RS with comfort seats and no roll cage.
Regardless, video shows the car to be destroyed inside and out – covered in graffiti, with smashed windows and its rear spoiler removed.
2. Suzuki declaring its cars 'the best in the universe' in new ad
In what is essentially the advertising equivalent of giving yourself a gold star, Suzuki has dropped its latest ad campaign, in which it unequivocally declare its cars as "the best cars in the universe".
According to Suzuki, the logic is as follows: "Earth: the Funnest Planet in the Universe. Suzukis: the Funnest Car on Earth. Therefore, Suzukis are the best cars in the universe."
That's... one way of looking at it?
3. These wallets in iconic car prints
They say some people wear their hearts on their sleeves, so why not wear your car brand loyalty on your wallet?
US-based brand WalletWerks offers bifold wallets and card holders in recognisable car fabrics, from Volkswagen Golf plaid to Subaru WRX STI blue Alcantara.
You can buy them online here (they're currently on sale for less than $50 a pop) and then get the socks to match.
4. This $89 million house with a 15-car garage
In this Los Angeles home, cars are king. Despite boasting 1453 square metres of interior space, the mansion has only five bedrooms, with the rest of the space devoted to a driving simulator, miniature toy racetrack and a 15-car garage.
Listed at US$62 million, or roughly AU$89 million, the house treats cars as works of art with its gallery-like approach to the garage – which looks more appropriate for hosting dinner parties than working on your project car.

5. Porsche's new Taycan colour options
Fresh paint shades for Porsche's all-electric Taycan sports car have surfaced on online configurators in some overseas markets.
According to Electrek, Porsche's configurator went from offering 10 options in 2020 to offering 16 for 2021.
A particular favourite of ours is the Cherry shade pictured below, but head to Electrek to see a full breakdown of all the offerings.
