2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pick-up unveiled

US pick-up specialist Ram has unveiled the production version of its first electric dual-cab – and it may be under consideration for Australia – but it shares little with the daring concept design shown last month.

The production 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pick-up has been revealed ahead of US showroom arrivals by the end of next year – and it is believed to be under consideration for Australia.

The unveiling of the production electric Ram 1500 follows last month's debut of a concept version, known as the 1500 Revolution – however the showroom version has a less daring design than the concept car teased only weeks ago.

The concept previewed an all-new vehicle with a different body to the V8 Ram pick-up in showrooms today.

However, the showroom version of the Ram 1500 REV appears to graft new front and rear-end designs onto the bodywork of the existing Ram 1500.

This is similar to the approach taken by the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pick-up – which differs from the standard F-150 in bumpers and wheels only, albeit on a completely new platform – compared to the electric version of the Chevrolet Silverado, which is unrelated to the petrol version, in terms of the bodywork and under the skin.

The designs of new vehicles are typically completed and 'signed off' years before they are unveiled, so it is highly unlikely the design of the production Ram electric pick-up was revamped since the concept was shown (below).

As previously reported by Drive, Ram Trucks Australia has expressed interest in the electric Ram 1500.

However it could be years away from local showrooms – after the US launch planned for late 2024 – given the time required to engineer and certify and remanufactured right-hand-drive variant.

While the electric REV may share some of the petrol Ram 1500's bodywork, it is expected to be underpinned by different architecture, as per the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Known as STLA Frame, the platform remains body-on-frame as per the current Ram 1500, but has been designed from the outset for electric propulsion, with a large battery pack across the centre floor of the vehicle.

Ram's parent company Stellantis has previously claimed vehicles on this STLA Frame chassis will be capable of up to 800km of driving range, from batteries between 159kWh and 200kWh in capacity.

Ram claimed the 1500 Revolution concept shown last month would be capable of adding 160km of driving range in 10 minutes on a 350kW DC fast charger.

The US pick-up specialist has promised the Ram 1500 REV will "push past the competition in areas customers care about the most: range, payload, towing and charge time."

It is unclear how much power the Ram 1500 REV will produce, though the STLA Frame architecture can support two of the Stellantis group's most powerful new-generation electric motor, each of which develops 350kW.

Only one photo of the interior has been published at this point, showing a portrait infotainment screen that is slightly larger than the one in the current Ram 1500 V8, and a touchscreen for the passenger.

However, the dashboard appears to be shared with the standard Ram 1500 – unlike the concept, which had a bespoke cabin with two giant 14.2-inch touchscreens, LED light strips, digital camera-based side mirrors, and few physical controls.

The concept also featured an adjustable rear cabin wall that can accomodate a third row of seating, or fold to extend the cargo area – however it does not appear this has made it to production.

Production of the Ram 1500 REV is due to begin next year, with first deliveries slated to begin in the US between October and December 2024. US buyers can place a $US100 refundable pre-order to mark their spot in the queue.
