2024 Volkswagen Tiguan spied for the first time

The third generation of Volkswagen’s popular Tiguan has been seen for the first time, roughly two years before it goes on sale.

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan mid-size SUV has been spied testing ahead of its debut next year.

Our European photography partners caught Volkswagen’s third-generation Tiguan in Austria, with some subtle – yet highly effective – camouflage in the form of printed decals over the headlights, grille, and tail-lights to help hide its true design.

Taking its styling cues from the latest Golf, the Tiguan appears to adopt its sibling’s full-width LED front light bar, as well as LED tail-lights similar to the ID range of electric models – with each corner lamp gaining a 'winglet' that flows into the body lines above the wheel arches.

The steel wheels with hubcaps may be from another era, but these are likely just for engineering evaluation purposes and aren’t expected to make it to the production car.

Though the new-generation Tiguan is expected to be a heavily-updated version of today's model (on an upgraded version of the current chassis), thanks to a slightly longer wheelbase and larger dimensions overall, the vehicle is slated to offer greater cabin space over the current model.

With the growing move towards electrification, the new Tiguan may be the last of its kind from the German car giant powered by internal-combustion engines – though plug-in hybrid variants are expected to be made available in the new SUV.

Volkswagen has previously indicated these will offer up to 100km of electric driving range.

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is slated to be revealed in 2023, with Australian deliveries likely to begin the following year. However, launch timing has not been locked in.
