New Subaru Forester teased, due to be revealed November 17

Subaru’s sixth-generation Forester is believed to be the Japanese brand’s next new model – due to be unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show later this month.

The next-generation Subaru Forester is expected to be revealed within a fortnight, after the Japanese car-maker teased the new-look SUV online.

In a media statement, Subaru’s US division announced it would unveil an “all-new fully redesigned vehicle” late on November 16 local time (November 17 Australian time) at the Los Angeles motor show.

Overseas outlets have speculated it could be a new version of the Subaru Ascent – a three-row, seven-seat SUV not sold in Australia – though Drive understands the Forester is the marque’s next model due to be replaced.

2023 Subaru Forester hybrid

As reported earlier this year, Subaru Australia managing director Blair Read hinted at a new-generation Forester being revealed towards the end of 2023, with covers coming off the popular SUV approximately five years after the current model went on sale in late 2018.

While few details about the new Forester are known, it could become the first Subaru model to adopt hybrid technology from fellow Japanese car-maker Toyota, after its own systems were criticised for delivering negligible fuel savings.

In May 2023, Subaru announced it would move away from its own hybrid technology and to Toyota-based systems from 2025, with Mr Read saying the Forester is the most likely candidate to receive the next-generation electrification.

“Given it's our number-one selling model, you would want to bring your best foot forward with the new Subaru Forester,” Mr Read told Drive.

"Whether it's there at launch or soon after, we're working through a few of those timings. But you'll see it in the market pretty soon."

It is not yet clear when the new-generation Subaru Forester will arrive in Australia, following its impending unveiling in the US within a fortnight.

The current Subaru Forester is the sixth best-selling sub-$60,000 medium SUVs in Australia, with 13,464 examples delivered between January and October 2023 – up almost 72 per cent on the same period 12 months ago.
