2024 Ford Bronco ute axed – report

Fears the retro pick-up truck could cannibalise Ranger and F-150 sales ultimately led to its demise.

A long-rumoured pick-up variant of the Ford Bronco has been scrapped, according to a new report from Automotive News.

Citing “insider sources,” the outlet claims Ford executives expressed concern the new model could cannibalise sales from existing products in the line-up, including the Ford Ranger and larger F-150.

The retro pick-up – shown as a rendering above – had never been officially confirmed for production, however was widely expected to launch in 2024.

In SUV guise, the current range-topping Ford Bronco SUV is driven by a 231kW 2.7-litre V6 twin-turbo ‘EcoBoost’ petrol engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission.

There are currently no plans to offer the existing Bronco SUV in Australia. However, earlier this year Drive reported a rumoured electric powertrain option could ultimately lead to a zero-emission variant of the locally-sold Ranger, which is underpinned by the same chassis.
