2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron price and specs

Audi's flagship electric SUV gains a new name, updated look and a larger battery pack, but price rises of about $8000 to $9000.

  • Updated E-Tron receives new name
  • Larger battery delivers longer driving range in European testing
  • Priced from $153,900 plus on-road costs

The 2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron electric SUV – the facelift of the original E-Tron launched here three years ago – has arrived in Australia with prices up to $8825 higher than its predecessor.

The Q8 E-Tron is the mid-life upgrade for Audi's large electric SUV, and wears a new name to avoid confusion with the company's upcoming onslaught of electric cars – including the smaller Q6 and Q4 E-Tron SUVs.

It gains a revised design and some additional features, as part of a three-model range that is – for now – available in wagon and Sportback body styles, and '55' long-range form only.

High-performance SQ8 E-Tron versions are expected to follow. The base 50 variant was deleted from the outgoing E-Tron range last year.

There has been a 20 per cent increase in battery capacity – from 95kWh gross (89kWh usable) to 114kWh gross (106kWh usable) – for up to 600km of claimed driving range, according to European figures.

Prices have risen by $7825 to $8825 depending on model, with the line-up now opening from $153,900 plus on-road costs.

Powering all models are dual electric motors developing 300kW and 664Nm in 'boost' mode, and a 106kWh battery.

Audi claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.5 seconds in normal mode – when less power is available – or 5.6 seconds in boost mode, towards a 200km/h top speed.

The Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide, and Audi Australia websites claim 454km of driving range for both models – unusually down 5km for the wagon, and down 10km for the Sportback, compared to the previous model on similarly-sized wheels.

The websites list claimed energy consumption of 25.6kWh/100km, up from 23.2 to 23.8kWh/100km previously.

It is unclear how these figures were reached, and how Audi has calculated its driving range numbers. The European figures appear to be more representative of the battery capacity increase.

In European WLTP testing, the Q8 E-Tron 55 wagon claims up to 582km of driving range, while the Sportback is claimed to be capable of up to 600km.

The Q8 E-Tron 55 variants can charge at up to 170kW DC, good for a 10 to 80 per cent recharge in a claimed 31 minutes.

Compared to the outgoing E-Tron 55 wagon, the new Q8 E-Tron 55 appears to gain a head-up display, and more advanced safety systems – according to third-party website Redbook, which uses manufacturer-supplied data.

The 2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron is due in Australia imminently.
