2023 Volkswagen Amarok recalled due to rear driveshaft failure

Just five new Volkswagen Amaroks have been recalled after a fault which could cause the dual-cab ute's driveshaft to fail was discovered.

Volkswagen Australia has recalled five examples of its 2023 Volkswagen Amarok ute, citing a risk of the dual-cab's rear driveshaft failing.

Despite being twinned with the Ford Ranger under its bodywork, the Amarok is built for Volkswagen in South Africa – not Thailand like its Blue Oval counterpart.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the rear driveshaft bolts may not have been sufficiently tightened during production and could become loose and detach. If this occurs, it may lead to a sudden loss of motive power.

"A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of accident, causing injury or death to the vehicle occupants and/or other road users."
