2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid price and specs

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee has gained plug-in hybrid power – but it costs almost as much as the old Trackhawk supercharged V8.

  • 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe pricing and specifications
  • Plug-in hybrid mates 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with electric motors
  • Top-of-the-range Summit Reserve trim only
  • Priced from $129,950 plus on-road costs

The first hybrid 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee to be sold in Australia will cost nearly as much as the final Trackhawk supercharged V8 – at about $140,000 drive-away – when it arrives in showrooms in August.

The Grand Cherokee '4xe' plug-in hybrid is available exclusively in top-of-the-range Summit Reserve trim – with five seats in the standard-length body – priced from $129,950 plus on-road costs.

While five-seat Jeep Grand Cherokees with the petrol V6 cost $4800 less than equivalent seven-seat versions, the five-seat Summit Reserve 4xe costs $10,500 more than the seven-seat Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve V6.

It is the most expensive Grand Cherokee sold in Australia since the supercharged V8-powered Trackhawk was discontinued in 2021, priced from $140,450 plus on-road costs.

Powering the 4xe is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine matched with two electric motors, a 17.3kWh battery and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Combined outputs of 280kW and 637Nm – 70kW more, and nearly double the torque of the 3.6-litre petrol V6 (210kW/344Nm) – with Jeep claiming 52km of electric driving range, and fuel economy of 3.2 litres per 100km in lenient NEDC lab testing.

There are three hybrid-specific drive modes – Hybrid, Electric and eSave – with regenerative braking to top the battery up under braking. It can charge to full on a 7.4kW home wallbox in less than three hours, Jeep claims.

The 2722kg braked towing capacity is down on the 2813kg quoted by the petrol V6 range.

The Summit Reserve 4xe is distinguished by 21-inch alloy wheels and a unique gloss black contrast roof.

Standard features include air suspension, Quadra-Trac II four-wheel-drive, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, Palermo leather trim, heated and ventilated front seats, a 19-speaker stereo, panoramic sunroof, and a full suite of advanced safety technology.

Orders for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe are open now ahead of first showroom arrivals due this August.
