2022 Subaru WRX teased once again, manual transmission and handbrake confirmed

The upcoming sports car is expected to arrive in Australian showrooms by early 2022.

The 2022 Subaru WRX sports car has been teased once again, with the latest showreel confirming the all-wheel-drive sedan will be offered with a manual transmission and old-school handbrake lever.

External shots primarily show the upcoming sports car from the back end, obscured by a large plume of dust. However, significant rear wheel arches and a black roof can be made out.

A brief glimpse of the vehicle’s tachometer shows a redline just above 6000rpm – slighting below the outgoing model, which topped-out at 6600rpm.

The 2022 Subaru WRX was initially scheduled to launch at the New York Motor show, however the event was cancelled last week. A new reveal date is yet to be confirmed.

It's expected to arrive in Australian showrooms by early 2022, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. The current generation WRX starts from $40,990 before on-road costs.

As previously reported by Drive, the next-generation WRX is expected to derive power from a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder 'boxer' petrol engine. Unconfirmed online rumours suggest an output of 213kW/412Nm.
