2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo teased, in line for Australia

The new Skoda Fabia city car will follow its predecessors in adopting a sporty Monte Carlo variant, with revised bumpers, black and red accents, new sports seats and more.

Skoda has teased a sportier version of its new Fabia city car, the 2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo – and government documents suggest it's in line for Australian showrooms.

Returning for the fourth-generation Fabia, the Monte Carlo nameplate denotes the sportiest variant of Skoda's long-running city car – in lieu of a high-performance RS flagship – with revised exterior styling, black accents, a sharper suspension tune, and various interior upgrades.

While Skoda Australia is yet to detail the variants its new Fabia city car will be offered in upon its launch in March or April, government documents seen by Drive indicate the car maker has certified the Monte Carlo for sale locally, either for introduction at the car's launch, or at a later date.

Teaser sketches of the new Fabia Monte Carlo released overnight show a revised front bumper with black inserts and a new lower lip spoiler, joined by Monte Carlo front wheel arch badging, and black finishes for the lower rear bumper, mirror caps, side skirts, rear roof spoiler and tailgate badges.

Inside, new sports seats with integrated headrests are on offer for front passengers, while the driver is presented with a three-spoke leather sports steering wheel (with Monte Carlo badging), a leather-wrapped gear selector, red accents throughout the cabin, and carbon-fibre-look trim inserts.

There's no word on what will power the new Fabia Monte Carlo, though past models in Australia have typically employed the most powerful engine on offer within the standard Fabia range – likely to be an 81kW/200Nm 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder, or a 110kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder, both paired to seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

Sports suspension should also feature, as per past and present Monte Carlo models.

The 2022 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo is likely to make its debut in the coming weeks. Australian launch timing is yet to be locked in.
