  • 2022 Ram 1500 TRX pricing and specifications
  • 6.2-litre supercharged V8 creates Australia's most powerful four-door
  • Advanced safety, heated/ventilated seats all standard
  • Backed by Ram's US operation, remanufactured in Melbourne
  • Priced from $199,950 before on-road costs

The world's most powerful production petrol pick-up – the 2022 Ram 1500 TRX – has arrived in Australia through official importer Ram Trucks Australia, and the first batch is already sold out.

Factory-backed by Ram Trucks in the US, the TRX sits atop the Ram 1500 'DT' range in Australia, priced from $199,950 plus on-road costs – $50,000 more than the Limited below it, and more then twice the price of a smaller Ford Ranger Raptor.

Power comes from a 6.2-litre supercharged 'Hemi' V8, developing 523kW and 882Nm – nearly double the 291kW/556Nm of a standard Ram 1500 DT V8, or a Ranger Raptor's 292kW/583Nm.

It sends drive to the the road, dirt or sand through an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive, capable of a 4.5-second 0-100km/h time, a 12.9-second quarter-mile (402m) at 174km/h, and a 190km/h top speed.

The supercharged V8 makes the Ram 1500 TRX the most powerful four-door vehicle on sale in Australia, irrespective of body style – but also one of the heaviest, at more than three tonnes (3057kg kerb, with a sunroof).

While the TRX has been offered locally by independent conversion companies for some months, the Ram Trucks Australia version is backed by the factory in the US, and sold through official Ram dealerships.

Ram Trucks Australia says its TRX – "remanufactured" from left to right-hand drive in Melbourne, and distributed by Ateco – has undergone 50,000km of "pre-build development hours", 80,000km of rolling road testing, 50,000km of on-road testing, and a 20,000km "durability test".

The official importer's sole 1500 TRX variant is loaded with most features available in overseas markets, with the only option being a full-length panoramic sunroof for $10,000.

The $199,950 plus on-road base price of the Ram Trucks Australia 1500 TRX compares to $213,400 for a TRX from AUSMV (via Queensland converter SCD Remanufactured Vehicles) – though the latter needs over $20,000 in options to match many of the former's standard features list.

Performance upgrades include 18-inch wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tyres, an electronic locking rear differential, a low-range transfer case, adaptive Bilstein coil-spring suspension, circa-375mm brake discs, eight drive modes, and a 'Jump Detection' function that modifies engine and suspension settings when in the air.

Ram quotes 295mm of ground clearance, an 812mm water fording depth, a 30.2-degree approach angle, 21.9-degree breakover angle and a 23-degree departure angle. Payload is 767kg without the sunroof (or 743kg with it optioned).

Standard-fit are a tow bar, trailer brake controller and a 12-pin wiring harness, enabling a 3500kg braked tow rating. Gross vehicle mass is rated at 3800kg, for a maximum gross combination mass of 6878kg.

Standard tech features include LED headlights, a 12-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated electric front sports seats, leather and suede upholstery, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and automatic climate control.

A full suite of advanced safety features are standard, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, plus a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors.

However, a digital rear-view mirror, head-up display and a selection of other features available in the US – and on models converted by independent companies – are not fitted to Ram Trucks Australia's TRX.

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX is in Ram Trucks Australia showrooms now. The official importer offers a three-year/100,000km warranty and roadside assistance program – but with service intervals every six months or 10,000km, whichever comes first.
