2022 Porsche Macan price and specs

Porsche plays musical chairs with the Macan range, but will the Turbo badge be gone for long?

  • 2022 Porsche Macan pricing and specification
  • Macan S takes the place of GTS, while GTS steps into Turbo's shoes
  • Styling and chassis revisions across the range
  • Priced from $84,800 before on-road costs

The 2022 Porsche Macan range has been updated and slimmed down, with the GTS taking over as the flagship variant in the three-model range, as Porsche shelves the Turbo badge for the time being.

While the Macan GTS now gets the same 324kW/550Nm of power as the outgoing Turbo, Porsche has also upgraded the mid-range Macan S, with its 280kW/520Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine replacing the outgoing 3.0-litre single-turbo V6.

The entry-level Macan (no badge) also sees a power bump, with its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine increasing 10kW to 195kW and 30Nm to 400Nm, along with an increase of $500 to $84,800 before on-road costs.

On paper, the Macan S appears to have gone up in price by $5000 to $105,800 plus on-road costs, but is actually $6500 less than the outgoing GTS while enjoying the same level of performance.

It's a similar story with the Macan GTS, which appears to have gone up in price to $129,800 before on-road costs – an increase of $17,500 over the previous GTS – but the model is actually $15,400 cheaper than the Macan Turbo it replaces.

With the range appearing to level up, and Porsche's archetypal Turbo badge disappearing from the range, it suggests the Turbo could reappear with an all-electric powertrain in the future.

The German car maker released images of a battery-powered prototype testing back in May 2021, ahead of its European launch slated for 2023.

Chassis improvements underpin the refreshed Macan range, with the Porsche Active Suspension Management system – optional on the Macan and standard on both S and GTS – also revised to improve handling.

Those who choose the Macan GTS get 'sport' air suspension on the SUV, which lowers the body by 10mm, as well as firming front axle by 10 per cent and the rear axle by 15 per cent.

The new Macan has received an updated interior, with the centre console borrowing some cues from the Cayenne, gaining a shorter gear shifter, touch-panel buttons in gloss black, and new multifunction and GT Sport steering wheels brought over from the 911.

A 10.9-inch high-definition touchscreen controls infotainment duties, while the analogue clock now comes standard across the three models.

The exterior has seen a minor design update too, with revised front and rear ends featuring a 3D texture, which extends to the car's 'side blades'. A set of LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) and SportDesign exterior mirrors are now standard across the range.

New 19-inch wheels are also standard for the Macan, with 20- and 21-inch wheels coming on the Macan S and GTS respectively, with seven designs available across the line-up.

The 2022 Porsche Macan is available to order now, with deliveries to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive).
