2022 Lotus Emira teased ahead of reveal

The next-generation sports car from Lotus has been previewed before the covers come off, but what will power the Emira?

The 2022 Lotus Emira has been teased one final time before it's officially unveiled next week.

Lotus has confirmed the Emira will be its last model to use an internal combustion engine before the brand begins offering fully-electric sports cars.

The Emira – along with two as yet unknown battery-powered models – will replace the Elise, Exige, and Evora in the Lotus stable.

Earlier rumours have suggested the Emira will retain the Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre supercharged V6 out of the Lotus, while other whispers out of Europe say the vehicle will borrow the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-AMG A45 S.

However, given Lotus and Alpine announced they were working together on joint projects back in January, it would make sense if the Emira was fitted with the transverse 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission found in the mid-engined Alpine A110.

All the details on the 2022 Lotus Emira will be revealed on Wednesday 7 July 2021. Stay tuned to Drive to get the very latest news as it comes to hand.
