2022 Ford Ranger Raptor to debut in February; petrol V6 power likely
Not content with revealing the new Ranger, Ford has given us our first look at the new Ranger Raptor.
The 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor has been teased ahead of a reveal next February – and it’s on course to use petrol V6 power.
Video shown during tonight's online reveal of the new-generation Ford Ranger ute has provided our first look at the Baja-ready Raptor hero, with ‘02.2022’ script shown on screen suggesting a reveal in February 2022 – meaning an Australian launch before the end of 2022 is on the cards.
A brief clip of the new Ranger Raptor’s exhaust note played during the reveal previews what appears to be a petrol V6 engine likely with turbocharging – an upgrade over the diesel V6 and petrol four-cylinder engines that will top the upcoming 2022 Ranger line-up.
As reported by Drive, this engine is expected to be the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 used in America’s Ford Explorer ST, where it develops 298kW and 563Nm.
The Explorer sends drive to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission and an on-demand all-wheel-drive system (rather than a part-time 4WD system) – a similar system to which is now available in the Ranger.
A shadow-laden teaser image shown by the car maker confirms the Raptor line’s signature ‘FORD’ grille script will make the cut for the new model, with C-shaped LED daytime-running lights and off-road-ready bumpers.
