2022-2023 Mercedes-AMG SL63 recalled due to loss of power and fire risk

The latest-generation Mercedes-AMG SL63 has been recalled in Australia due to a manufacturing fault which could lead to a vehicle fire.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 82 examples of its 2022-2023 Mercedes-AMG SL63, following the discovery of a fault which could cause the new-generation convertible to lose power and catch fire.

The recall affects the latest-generation SL63, which arrived in Mercedes-Benz's Australian showrooms earlier this year.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect, the 12-volt alternator wiring harness may come in contact with the transmission drive shaft.

"As a result, the wiring harness could become damaged causing an electrical short circuit which may lead to a loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire.

"A loss of motive power or a vehicle fire could increase the risk an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property."
