2021 Toyota HiLux picks up price hikes across the range

Supply constraints have driven up the price of Australia's best-selling vehicle.

The 2021 Toyota HiLux has picked up price rises across the range, with an average hike of $695 on each variant.

The entry-level ‘Workmate’ single-cab model (shown below) now starts from $24,225 before on-road costs, up from $23,590 last month. This represents an increase of $635.

Meanwhile, the flagship ‘Rouge’ dual-cab starts at $70,200 before on-road costs, up from $68,990 last month. This represents an increase of $1210.

The Toyota HiLux is one of Australia’s most popular nameplates, topping the VFACTS industry sales report outright in 8 of the previous 12 months. In all but one of those months, the ute finished in first or second place.

Throughout 2020, 45,176 examples of the vehicle were reported as sold (10,410 rear-wheel drive, and 34,766 four-wheel drive).

However, low supply due to a silicon chip shortage, coupled with higher numbers of people avoiding public transport during the coronavirus pandemic, has driven up prices in recent months across the entire automotive industry.
