Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled 680 examples of its 2018-2022 Mercedes-Benz CLS, E-Class and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, citing a fault with the transmission wiring harness in the three vehicles.

According to Mercedes-Benz, the recall affects the CLS and E-Class sedans, and the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe liftback.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing defect the transmission wiring harness may be damaged.

"The damage can allow moisture into the wiring harness, which may cause a short circuit resulting in a vehicle fire.

"A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders, and/or damage to property.
