Ford has reportedly confirmed with press in Europe that a new-generation Focus RS hero is on the way, with a "sometime in 2015" debut expected.
While the company has yet to make an official announcement on plans for a new RS model, rumours and reports have circulated since well before the debut of the new ST hot hatch.
Now, according to the UK's Autocar, the next RS is coming and it will bring a new turbocharged engine with it.
Disappointing though the news might be, it will not surprise fans to learn that the new model is expected to do away with the rorty five-cylinder engine of the previous model.
Instead, a highly tuned 2.3 litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine is expected. And, while the next Mustang is expected to get a rear-wheel-drive configuration with the same engine, the Focus RS will likely remain a front-wheel-drive package.
An all-wheel-drive setup is understood to have been under consideration - utilising an electric-drive system for the rear wheels - but Ford has reportedly written off the idea as a cost-saving move.
