2005-2007 Honda Jazz recalled in Australia: 26,496 cars affected
Honda Australia has recalled more than 26,000 Honda Jazz hatchbacks over a design fault in the driver’s side power window switch.
The recall affects 26,496 first-generation Honda Jazz vehicles produced between 2005 and 2007.
The official recall notice published on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) website explains:
“The driver's side power window switch contains a switch unit that has been manufactured with an inappropriate design. Therefore, it is possible for automotive cleaning products containing silicones to enter into the switch unit.
“Repeated use and contamination by silicones may interfere with the switch operation and cause the switch unit to overheat. This may cause smoke and in the worst case, may ignite.”
No injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
Honda Australia will contact affected owners by letter at the last known address, and has encouraged owners to contact their authorised Honda dealership for inspection and replacement of the driver’s-side power window switch.
This is the third recall for the popular Honda Jazz in Australia so far this year.
In January, the 27,156 first-generation Jazz hatches built between 2002 and 2005 were recalled over a defect in the wiring of the low beam headlights.
In February, 11,000 second-generation Honda Jazz and Honda City sedans were recalled in Australia because of a fault with the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
The Honda Jazz benefited from a much-needed safety boost earlier this year, when the refreshed line-up was upgraded to include electronic stability control and side and curtain airbags standard across the range.
