1988 Holden VL Walkinshaw SS V8 listed with $1 million hopes, as ‘bogan boom’ rages on
The pristine 5.0-litre V8 HSV has just 1479km on the clock.
A 1988 Holden VL Walkinshaw SS Group A homologation special has been listed for sale in NSW, with price expectations “in excess of $1 million.”
Of the 750 Walkinshaw SS cars built, this example is number 439. The odometer has clocked just 1479km since new, and the vehicle appears to have never been registered – according to the seller, it is in "complete original condition."
Drive comes from a front-mounted 5.0-litre petrol V8 capable of putting out 180kW/380Nm, and this is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual Borg-Warner T56 transmission.
At the time of publishing the highest bid sat at $220,000, however a spokesperson for Lloyds Auctioneers – which is facilitating the sale – said at least $1 million was expected once the hammer drops.
In recent months the price of Australian-built sedans and utes has skyrocketed. Several historic Holdens and Fords have sold for well over $800,000, breaking records in quick succession. Meanwhile, a HSV GTSR W1 Maloo sold for $1.05 million in January.
Last month CarAdvice reported a 1974 Holden Torana L34 SL/R 5000 was set to be sold. However, the car ultimately failed to find a buyer willing to fork out the $750,000 reserve.
