The company has said the concept will showcase “a downsized, lower-weight PHEV drivetrain and an electric 4WD system” and that it’ll be a small SUV. That means it’ll be smaller than this year’s Engelberg concept (below), a PHEV SUV that previewed the next Outlander...

Mitsubishi not planning Ford Ranger Raptor rival

Mitsubishi says it has no plans to introduce a rival to the Ford Ranger Raptor ute – or mount a counterattack with a high-powered turbo diesel V6 even though it has access to one thanks to the recent alliance with Nissan-Renault. Ford and Volkswagen are expected to have turbo-diesel V6 power as part of their next generation pickups due within a few years from now, and Toyota is on record as saying it wants to make up for the HiLux’s power deficit...

Mitsubishi to launch Renault-sourced van mid-2020

Mitsubishi will rejoin the commercial van market by the middle of next year after a six-year absence with a vehicle based on the Renault Trafic – however the company claims it won’t compete with its French joint venture partner on price. The opportunity for a van to return to Mitsubishi showrooms came about after the Japanese brand became part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance in 2017...

Mitsubishi boss pours cold water on next-generation Evolution

Mitsubishi carved its reputation as a manufacturer of performance cars with the rally-bred Evolution Lancer sedans built from 1992 to 2016 – but such niche models have been difficult to justify in the modern automotive world as buyer tastes shift to SUVs...

Mitsubishi ASX to get 2.4-litre petrol engine

The Mitsubishi ASX will soon be available with a 2.4-litre petrol engine, bringing the option of more power to Australia’s biggest-selling small SUV. It will coincide with the October arrival of a major facelift for the Mitsubishi ASX – which adopts the company’s “shield” grille – the latest in a number of overhauls since the model went on sale in 2010...

The next generation Mitsubishi Triton ute – due two to three years from now – will have the option of hybrid power for the first time. However, the company is yet to decide if it will be a plug-in hybrid, and whether it will pair its electric tech with a petrol or diesel engine – or both...
