The latest Elantra Sport is at the pointy end of the warmed-up performance segment delivering solid fun behind the wheel, as well as practicality and good looks. Plenty of standard kit, too, if you go with this Premium variant.
Hyundai once owned the warm-sedan segment. Now, it has some competition. How does it plan to defend its turf?
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra enters an ever more competitive segment with more standard kit, and an even more compelling buying proposition.
The Hyundai Elantra is an attractive and affordable option in the small segment, with the usual Hyundai strong points and versatile day-to-day usability.
The Elantra Sport, despite its polarising facelift, is goo buying. Its balance between ride and handling is judged to perfection, the exterior is sharp, and the cabin feels slightly more upmarket than its Kia Cerato GT cousin. Plus, it still handles. What more could you want?

It was only July when the Honda Civic VTi-S outshone both the Skoda Octavia Ambition and Hyundai Elantra Active. Here though, we have just two rivals going head-to-head: the 2016 Honda Civic RS and 2017 Hyundai Elantra SR Turbo. And, based on their most recent individual reviews – the Civic RS scoring 8/10 from Mike Costello, the Elantra SR Turbo scoring the same from Matt Campbell – this has the potential to be a rather close-fought little battle...
Demand for small sedans has been a little stagnant of late, with people increasingly drawn to hatchbacks and crossover SUVs. Nevertheless, the battle for sales supremacy in this traditional part of the market is intensely fought, and there is no lack of quality options...
There have been some big rivalries in the world of cars over the years, but the Hyundai Elantra versus Mazda 3 battle is probably one that hasn’t stood out to most people. This is not a thrilling pairing...

Hyundai Australia has recalled the 2019 Venue, Elantra and Ioniq Electric over a problem with the wheel nuts. According to the company, the affected cars might not have had their wheel nuts tightened correctly. If the nuts aren't tightened correctly, the wheels could come loose and fall off...
Hyundai Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the facelifted Elantra Sport and Elantra Sport Premium, with the performance range kicking off from $28,990 before on-road costs. As we already knew, the biggest difference between the Elantra Sport range and the core line-up is what lies under the bonnet – a 150kW/265Nm 1...
Hyundai Australia has detailed the revised 2019 Elantra range, headlined by a new look, additional trim levels, and a host of new available features. The variant count has increased to four, with two core versions and two performance models making up the family. For 2019 there's the new entry-level Go (pictured in white), priced from $21,490 before on-road costs lowering the cost of entry by around $400...
I purchased my Elantra second-hand in 2015, and it had two previous owners. My car had additional extras from the previous owner including a new CD radio, tinted windows and tow bar. The most impressive aspect of this car is that it is entirely free of any rust and the paintwork is still high in lustre and blemish free...
The 2005 Hyundai Elantra 2.0 FX hatchback has been our daily driver for the past six years. We purchased it after arriving back from London as an interim car before we bought a luxury leather seat (nice) car. It is a very reliable and easy to drive car and has now done 216,000km...
I had a Ford Territory and always owned Australian-made, and now that I do not have that option and my lifestyle has changed, I decided to go with what best suits my lifestyle and the best value for my hard-earned dollar without breaking the bank. My partner purchased an i30 and I was impressed driving that, but needed something bigger...
Background In 2016, I decided to trade in my manual Alfa Romeo for an automatic, as my wife wasn't too comfortable with manual transmissions. We were looking for something in the vicinity of $30–$40K, not a hatchback (wife doesn't like them) and with a bit of poke. After much contemplation, we ended up with an A3, a base WRX and the recently launched Elantra SR...
