It's a road that twists and turns for 65km and over 400 between the lakeside resort of Eildon and the high-country town of Jamieson about two hours from Melbourne. The Eildon-Jamieson road is as challenging as it is infamous. Here's how to get there!
Drive Season 2 screens on Channel 9 at 1 pm each Sunday. The full episode will be available to video on 9Now after it airs.
Heading to Eildon from Melbourne is a two-hour drive which is best enjoyed by heading through the Black-Spur in Healsville, through Marysville for a coffee break, and then on to the holiday town of Eildon.
The Eildon-Jamieson Road was built during the construction of the Eildon dam and reservoir in the 1950s and was gradually upgraded to its current sealed status over the last few years.
The road was basically gravel right up until around 2006, but it wasn't until around 2013 that the entire road was sealed from end to end.
It's tight and twisty for nearly the entire length, save a short straight away about halfway along.
We stopped at the Jamieson General Store for lunch, but there's also a good pub there, and plenty more choices about 30-minutes to the north in Mansfield.
On the way back we ventured to Foggs Lookout about 10-minutes out of Eildon township, near the Jerusalem Cove marina.
This road is paved to a carpark, then hard-packed gravel to the top of the mountain. It was fine in the Cayenne, so should be suitable for most cars.
