Heading into the country in an electric car is still something of a novelty, but when your destination is a giant electricity-producing solar farm, it almost feels natural - here's how to get there!
Drive Season 2 screens on Channel 9 at 1 pm each Sunday. The full episode will be available to video on 9Now after it airs.
Our drive this week took us into the heart of the Riverina region in NSW, starting from Yass, a three-hour drive from Sydney. Head straight down the Hume Highway from Sydney and then take the old road into Yass instead of the highway bypass.
We charged the EV6 up in Yass, stayed the night, and then headed to Narrandera via Temora. You’ve got three different options to get to Narrandera from Yass, ranging from just under, to just over three hours driving time.
We opted for the second fastest option which saw us take the M31 out of Yass, before turning onto the B94, and then heading through Binalong, Harden, Murrumburrah, Stockinbingal, and into Temora.
This is where we visited the air museum.
The B94, then runs out of Temora through Ardlethan and Kamarah down into Narrandera where we stayed the night.
Another NRMA fast charger made topping the EV6 up easy, while we spent some time in town. The Darlington Point solar farm is outside Narrandera in the direction of Coleambally, and you can take one of the three different routes back to Yass to mix the return trip up.
One option takes you back through Grong Grong, Coolamon and Gundagai on the A39 and then the M31. The third option heads south out of Narrandera into Gillenbah, Sandigo and then Wagga Wagga on the A20. There’s plenty to see and each of the three drives offer vastly different roads and scenery.
