Which Mahindra XUV700 variant should you buy?

If you're in the market for a Mahindra XUV700 but don't know which variant will suit your needs – here's everything you need to know.

Indian car maker Mahindra is vying for the attention of budget-conscious Australian buyers with its value-packed cars – and its seven-seater XUV700 could be the affordable SUV that wins consumers over.

The Mahindra XUV700 landed in Australian showrooms in June 2023, with most considering it to be a successor to the five-seat XUV500 the car manufacturer previously sold in Australia before stopping production in 2022.

If you're looking to add an XUV700 to your garage, which variant represents the best value for your money?

With two specification grades available, here's everything you need to know about the Mahindra XUV700.

How much does the Mahindra XUV700 cost?

To quote Drive's Off-road Editor Sam Purcell, "The Mahindra XUV700's model range is simple and to the point", with features that prize functionality and purpose over luxury.

The base-grade Mahindra XUV700 AX7 is currently priced at $36,990 drive-away, while the top-spec Mahindra XUV700 AX7L is slightly more expensive at $39,990 drive-away.

Both XUV700 models are front-wheel drive, with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

For some peace of mind, Mahindra offers buyers a seven-year/150,000km warranty as well as capped-price servicing every 12 months or 15,000km – with each visit priced from $357 up to $563 at its most expensive.

Which Mahindra XUV700 is the best?

Given the XUV700 range is relatively affordable, opting for the top-spec Mahindra XUV700 AX7L will give your family all the equipment you need without sacrificing the necessary safety features.

Even though the Mahindra XUV700 AX7L adds a further $3000 to the bill, premium features such as an upgraded 12-speaker stereo system, wireless charging and cruise control could provide a better driving experience if you're looking to spend under $40,000 for your next family car.

However, it's the added safety features included in the premium AX7L variant that could be the justification for buyers to spend a little extra to keep the family safe and protected.

The upgraded safety features include an extra airbag located around the driver's knees, a blind-spot sensor, front and side cameras, as well as an electric park brake system – on top of the standard safety functions available in every variant.

There are five no-cost paint options, but Drive recommends the 'Dazzling Silver' shade for a timeless look.

What standard equipment does the Mahindra XUV700 have?

Standard equipment available across the Mahindra XUV700 range includes a multi-function control screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights and tail-lights, speed zone reminder with road sign recognition, armrests, electric seats, glass roof, power doors and mirrors.

Additionally, leather accents can be seen on the gear knob and steering wheel – while map/reading lights are available on the second and third rows in the interior.
