New Cars: 2019 New Car Calendar - the October update

We said it in 2017, and in 2018, and we can safely say it again: last year was a big one for new model reveals, and 2019 has so far proven to be just as big. With new-car sales numbers looking likely to fall short of a record effort in 2019, the 60-or-so brands operating in Australia will be hoping their latest offerings – those launched so far this year, and those still to come in 2020 – inspire more interest among local buyers...

Styling face-off: 2020 Land Rover Defender 90 v 2011 DC100 concept

Back in 2011, literally a century ago (okay, that's not how 'literally' works), well before I joined CarAdvice, I wrote about and drooled over the Land Rover DC100 concept. CarAdvice wrote about it too, of course. Modeled as a potential preview of the new off-roading SUV that would replace the legendary Defender, the DC100 introduced a look that brought some modernity to the concept...

2019 Frankfurt motor show: Hits and misses

Another huge Frankfurt motor show done and dusted. What was worth checking out? What tickled and tormented showgoers? It looks like the Defender was a big favourite for our team, along with Hyundai's minimalist and sharp 45 electric concept. BMW's Concept 4 coupe concept, on the other hand, not so lucky..

2020 Nissan Juke revealed, Australian potential unclear

At long last, the new 2020 Nissan Juke has been revealed. The new model replaces the first-generation Juke that launched in Australia way back in 2013, after having first been revealed to the world the previous year. Recent sales for the original Juke have all but ground to a halt in Australia, but its refreshing – if polarising – take on the compact SUV concept delivered Nissan Australia thousands of new buyers annually in its early years...

Audi Foundation puts up RS4 Avant for charity raffle

As it does each year since its launch in 2017, the Audi Foundation is holding a raffle through August to raise funds for a variety of charities in Australia. To celebrate its launch, the Foundation offered an example of the heroic R8 supercar, and last year's entrants were in the draw to win the powerful SQ5 SUV...

Life-size LEGO Honda Civic Type R debuts in Melbourne: We talk with the man behind its build

Life-sized LEGO projects are serious business. Thousands of hours and hundreds of thousands of bricks go into most, with subjects that range from towering giraffes and elephants to motorised Bugattis and decked-out Kombi campers. Scaling things down a little, even the legendary Saturn V rocket and Darth Vader's iconic Death Star have been rendered in huge but not-quite-life-sized form...

Volkswagen SMV concept unveiled at Shanghai motor show

Volkswagen's product and concept flood at this week's Shanghai motor show continues with the seven-seat SMV concept, developed through the Chinese-market FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. The SMV's stand-out feature, apart from advancing Volkswagen's familiar styling language, is without doubt its size: at 5100mm long, it stretches beyond the Atlas (Teramont in China) to become the company's largest SUV yet...
