2022 Porsche Macan price and specs: Medium SUV facelifted again with more power, new tech

Porsche's popular mid-size SUV gains a revised appearance, more grunt and new tech for 2022, in the lead-up to the electric Macan in 2023.

  • 2022 Porsche Macan pricing and specification
  • Mid-size SUV updated for the second time
  • New look, upgraded tech and more power headline changes
  • Priced from $84,800 before on-road costs

The 2022 Porsche Macan has been updated ahead of its Australian showroom arrival in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December).

The second facelift of the mid-size Porsche SUV's life cycle, the updates to the 2022 Macan's styling, interior, technology and engine line-up are intended to see the petrol-engined version through to 2023 and beyond, at which point it will be sold alongside the upcoming electric Macan for the years that follow.

The petrol-powered Macan Turbo has been axed for 2022, with the GTS and S models sitting below it gaining new engines and/or power boosts to match the outputs of the outgoing Turbo and GTS respectively.

Styling updates are led by a revised front fascia with restyled air intakes, standard-fit adaptive LED headlights, and a central accent element, finished in the main body colour on standard models, or black on the GTS.

Above, in red: 2022 Porsche Macan GTS. Top of story, in orange: 2022 Porsche Macan S.

New rear bumper and side skirt designs feature, along with standard-fit SportDesign side mirrors, and larger alloy wheels across the range – measuring 19 inches in diameter on the base Macan, 20 inches on the Macan S and 21 inches on the GTS – available in seven new designs.

A total of 14 colours are on offer, including three new hues: Papaya Metallic, Gentian Blue Metallic, and the GTS-exclusive Python Green (available only with the GTS Sport package).

Inside, the Macan joins the Panamera, Cayenne and 911 in adopting Porsche's latest centre console design, with touch-sensitive buttons replacing the outgoing model's physical switches.

A 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running the marque's latest Porsche Communication Management software sits in the centre of the dashboard, with Apple CarPlay and voice control. A shorter gear selector and a standard-fit analog clock fit between the front occupants.

The Macan also gains the multi-function and GT Sport steering wheel options from the new-generation 911.

Buyers can select from Gentian Blue, Papaya or Crayon (grey) leather upholstery and contrast stitching packages, along with a GTS Sport package on the range-topping GTS, which adds 18-way power-adjustable sports seats, a carbon interior package, Race-Tex suede upholstery with leather accents, contrast stitching, and GTS lettering in Python Green.

Under the bonnet, the old four-strong range has been rationalised to 'just' three variants: the eponymous base 'Macan', mid-tier Macan S, and flagship GTS – all employing petrol power.

The entry-level Macan sees its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine uprated to develop 195kW and 400Nm – up 10kW and 30Nm – enabling a 6.2-second 0-100km/h sprint time (with the Sport Chrono package) and a 232km/h top speed.

The new Macan S swaps its predecessor's 260kW/480Nm 3.0-litre single-turbo V6 for the 280kW/520Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 bolted to the gearbox of the old GTS. Porsche claims a 4.6-second dash from a standstill to 100km/h (with the Sport Chrono pack), towards a top speed of 259km/h.

Sitting atop the range is the Macan GTS, powered by an uprated 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 developing 324kW and 550Nm – matching the outgoing Turbo. A 4.3-second sprint to triple digits (with Sport Chrono) is claimed, as is a 272km/h top speed.

All models drive all four wheels through seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive.

Under the skin, revised adaptive damper, steering and chassis tuning claims to "[balance] maximum suspension comfort and dynamic sports car performance".

Adaptive 'sport' air suspension is standard on the GTS, which sits 10mm lower to the tarmac than its standard counterparts, and is claimed to be 10 per cent stiffer up front, and 15 per cent stiffer at the rear than the outgoing GTS' suspension.

The optional GTS Sport package brings 21-inch GT Design alloy wheels and torque vectoring.

The 2022 Porsche Macan will reach the first customers' driveways in the fourth quarter of 2021 (October to December inclusive). Full standard equipment and pricing lists can be found at the bottom of this story.
