The 2022 Skoda Kodiaq facelift has been unveiled, ahead of an Australian launch by December 2021.
Four and a half years after the Kodiaq was first unveiled, Skoda's seven-seat SUV has come in for its mid-life facelift, gaining revised exterior styling, interior technology tweaks, and a big change under the bonnet for the burly RS range-topper.
Exterior design changes for Model Year 2022 are relatively minor, headlined up front on standard models by slimmer LED headlights (or, optionally, matrix LED), a new bonnet paired with a more upright grille, and a reworked lower bumper with more aerodynamic air intakes.

Slimmer C-shaped LED tail-lights and a new tailgate spoiler feature at the rear, along with a range of new alloy wheels measuring up to 20 inches in diameter, including a selection of new aerodynamic designs intended to reduce drag and improve fuel economy.
Facelifted Sportline models (top) continue to differentiate themselves from lesser models through body-coloured bumpers and side skirts with black detailing, while the updated RS picks up a bespoke, more aggressive front bumper and a new 20-inch alloy wheel design.
Inside, changes include new perforated leather-trimmed ergonomic front seats with heating, ventilation and massaging, a pair of new two- and three-spoke steering wheel designs inspired by the new Octavia, and an expanded 575-watt Canton premium sound system with 10 speakers (up from eight).

New grey or red contrasting stitching adorns the doors, seats and dashboard, while puddle light projection, LED ambient footwell lighting, a wireless smartphone charger and an array of USB-C ports are now available on certain models.
While buyers continue to have the choice of 8.0- or 9.2-inch infotainment touchscreens and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, the systems have been updated with the Volkswagen Group's latest software, including over-the-air updates, an eSIM, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and support for the MySkoda smartphone app.
Under the bonnet, Australian buyers will continue to have the choice of 132TSI and RS powertrains – though the hi-po latter has undergone some significant changes for MY2022.
The 'entry-level' 132TSI continues to employ a 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder, paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive – with Skoda Australia to continue to offer the sport-themed Sportline package with the engine locally.
While the 132TSI carries over into its mid-life update unchanged, the RS trades the pre-facelift model's 176kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder for a 180kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder shared with the Skoda Octavia RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Drive continues to be sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
While a 0-100km/h time isn't claimed, expect the benchmark sprint to be completed around seven seconds – on par with its predecessor, as the petrol engine's circa-65kg lighter mass should roughly balance out with the diesel's greater torque.
RS-specific upgrades over its lesser range-mates continue to include the aforementioned aesthetic changes, plus microfibre sports seats with RS embroidery, quilted trim, and a Sport display mode for the 10.25-inch instrument cluster.
European buyers can also opt for 110kW 1.5-litre turbo petrol, 110kW or 147kW 2.0-litre turbo diesel (now with twin-dosing technology) and 140kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines.
The Kodiaq's safety suite now includes an enhanced version of the existing Crew Protect Assist system, with radar sensors in the rear bumper to detect imminent rear-end collisions and prepare the vehicle accordingly.
The 2022 Skoda Kodiaq will go on sale in Europe in July 2021.
