2022 Nissan 400Z engine spied: Twin-turbo V6 incoming
The Nissan Z Proto has been caught with its bonnet up, revealing key details about the powertrain of the upcoming 2022 Nissan 400Z.
Sneaky photos show Nissan's pre-production Z Proto with what appears to be a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 derived from the Infiniti Q60, confirming long-held rumours about the sports car's powerplant.
While exact outputs have yet to be confirmed, it's expected the 'VR30DDTT' engine in the 400Z will at least match the 298kW and 475Nm offered in the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport.
The Nissan Z Proto was snapped by Instagram user @layersworks at the brand's flagship showroom in Tokyo, with keen-eyed members of the NewNissanZ forum spotting a number of key details that match the turbocharged Infiniti engine.
Despite being fitted with a unique engine cover, internet sleuths identified three rubber hoses that align with the location of those found on the Q60's V6, as well as three distinct coolant caps.
In January 2021, patent filings discovered by Drive revealed the Nissan 400Z was nearly identical to the Z Proto concept car, unveiled in September 2020.
Exactly timing for the 400Z's arrival has yet to be confirmed, but expect an official unveiling of the production model this year for a showroom arrival in either late 2021 or early 2022.
