Better clear some shelf space, as the latest LEGO Technic ‘real’ car model has arrived, a LEGO McLaren Senna GTR.
The McLaren Senna was launched in 2018 as the third in the McLaren Ultimate Series lineup (trailing the F1 and P1).
Designed as a textbook function-over-form laptime crusher, the Senna features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 588kW and 800Nm, which are massive numbers for a car with a mass of just 1198kg (lighter than a Toyota Corolla).
Aerodynamic efficiency is key to the Senna’s design, which doesn’t make it a classically beautiful vehicle, despite being a brutally fast, capable and road registerable one.
The LEGO Technic model takes things up a notch and follows the track-only variant, the Senna GTR (pictured below).
The model includes the more aggressive front splitter and rear diffuser, plus the more expansive rear spoiler assembly of the race car. It is finished with blue, silver and black pieces and features swing-up doors, working steering and moving pistons.
As an officially licenced product, the team from McLaren were involved with the development of the kit.
“The team responsible for the design of the McLaren Senna GTR worked incredibly closely with their design counterparts at the LEGO Group to capture the extreme looks, excitement and essence of such an incredible supercar for LEGO Technic builders”, said Robert Melville, Design Director of McLaren Automotive.
Kit 42123 features 830 pieces and produces a model 32cm long. The kit is priced from $89.99 which makes it an affordable project to clutter the kitchen table for a day or so of construction.
Only 75 examples of the real McLaren Senna GTR were produced, but the LEGO kit should be hitting stores in far more plentiful supply and is available to buy from the LEGO Australia website right now.
The LEGO Technic McLaren Senna GTR joins the LEGO Technic Jeep Wrangler Rubicon as a new ‘real car’ kit to be made available for 2021.
We’ve ordered ours, so stay tuned to the CarAdvice Instagram to see it completed.
