UPDATE, 18 June 2021: Alfa Romeo Australia has confirmed pricing and specifications for the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia range – and (you guessed it) both prices and specs carry over unchanged.

We've brought forward our 2020 pricing story and updated its title to reflect the carry-over equipment. The 2021 range is on sale now.

29 September 2020: The streamlined and updated 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia line-up has gone on sale in Australia, offering buyers a new entrypoint into the range, plus fresh standard safety features and price reductions on some variants.

The 2020 Giulia line-up has been trimmed from four to three variants, with a new base grade – the Giulia Sport – replacing both the previous entry-level Giulia variant and the mid-spec Super variant.

The Giulia Sport is priced from $63,950 before on road-costs, making it $3050 more expensive than the previous entry point into the range – but adding what Alfa claims is 10 per cent more value on top of the outgoing trim grade.

However, prices for the remaining two grades – the mid-spec Veloce and the flagship Quadrifoglio – have fallen, with the Veloce now priced from $71,450 before on-road costs (a reduction of $1450) and the Quadrifoglio priced from $138,950 before on-road costs (a reduction of $6950).

The Sport trim is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 147kW and 330Nm, and boasting a 0-100km/h time of just 6.6 seconds.

The Veloce receives an amped-up version of the same engine, producing 206kW and 400Nm, with a quicker sprint time of 5.8 seconds.

The performance-focussed Quadrifoglio, meanwhile, scores a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbo engine boasting 375kW and 600Nm, and hitting 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

All variants are rear-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Alfa Romeo's product strategy director, Guillaume Drelon, said the brand had "listened to the consumer" and improved upon its safety and technology offerings – most notably with the addition of a new 8.8-inch touchscreen, which replaces the previous car's rotary dial (although retains the same dimensions).

Standard safety inclusions from the base grade have also improved, with the entry-level Sport receiving traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed control, automatic high beams, active blind spot assist, active cruise control, a forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian recognition and lane departure warning.

The Sport grade also comes equipped with leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, automatic wipers, satellite navigation, rear parking sensors and a reverse camera.

A heated leather steering wheel, aluminum pedals and an aluminium dashboard insert, rear privacy glass, red brake calipers and wireless phone charging round out the standard equipment package.

Along with enhanced performance, the Veloce variant adds active suspension, a body kit, dual exhaust, a limited-slip differential, a leather dashboard, rear heated seats and electric memory seats.

Along with its infamous race mode (which elevates performance credentials even further), the flagship Quadrifoglio adds a Monza exhaust with quad tips, an upgraded braking system, Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, leather and Alcantara seats, carbon fibre interior and exterior trim and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

The 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia range is on sale in Australia now.
