Kia's new compact SUV, previously thought to be called the Tusker, has officially been given a name – and it's been snapped without camouflage in the USA.

UPDATE, 31/05/19: We've managed to get our hands on images of the Seltos. The story has been updated with the fresh pictures. Click on the images for the full gallery.

Snapped by Autoblog (which got the drop on the spy photos, well done guys) during what looks like a marketing photoshoot in the USA, it appears the new sub-Sportage crossover will be badged Seltos.

As with the sketches released earlier this month, the images confirm the production car will look a lot like the SP Signature Concept unveiled in Seoul earlier this year.

With a two-tier headlight design, contrasting black roof and chunky detailing, all the critical details from the concept are present in the production version.

Down back, there's a tough-looking bash plate, along with a more production-friendly interpretation of the concept's tail-lights. It's remarkably true to the show car, right down to the wheels.

The Seltos will finally give Kia a look into one of the most competitive segments of the market when it lobs in Australia during September or October. Along with the related Hyundai Kona, it'll go head-to-head with the Mazda CX-3, Subaru XV, Nissan Qashqai and Honda HR-V.

"We're looking forward to it. It's a segment that we're not involved in that's quite a good segment," Kevin Hepworth, Kia Australia communications boss, told CarAdvice last year.
