Alex Misoyannis • Mini has unveiled a mid-life facelift for its compact Clubman wagon.
Changes over the outgoing model are subtle and mainly lie in the aesthetics department. Up front there’s a revised grille with longer horizontal slats, flanked by optional matrix LED headlights and all-new LED fog lights.
Around the rear, LED tail-lights are now bundled as standard, with a version of the recently-refreshed Mini Hatch’s Union Jack LED taillights available as an option.
Other exterior changes for the 2019 Mini Clubman include a range of new paint hues, optional Piano Black exterior trim and a host of new alloy wheel designs up to 19 inches in size.
Interior styling has been bolstered with a selection of fresh materials, many of which come from the new MINI Yours customisation programme. Through the options list, customers can alter the seat material, trim material, floor mat design and steering wheel.
The British brand’s Original Accessories range has also been expanded, with the addition of coloured mirror caps, a dark-coloured Union Jack roof design, various side badges and black Mini badges.
Mechanically, the only updates come in the form of a new sports suspension option, which rides 10mm lower and is likely stiffer than the standard, comfort-biased tune.
The powertrain line-up remains unchanged. In Australia, that means the base Cooper will continue with its 100kW/220Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol and the Cooper S will retain its 141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre turbo-four.
A facelifted John Cooper Works performance variant will be revealed at a later date.
European customers will also have the option of a 75kW version of the 1.5-litre petrol, along with a range of 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesels producing between 85kW and 140kW.
The 2019 Mini Clubman makes its public debut at this week’s Shanghai motor show.
The new Mini Clubman goes on sale in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2019, in Cooper and Cooper S trim levels. An updated JCW model will arrive later on, likely in early 2020.
