Facelifted hybrid hatchback picks up revised design and new multimedia system as headlining changes, while pricing goes up by $150.
Toyota Australia has announced pricing and specifications for the refreshed 2019 Prius range, which is now on sale from $36,590 plus on-road costs.
Compared to the outgoing model, the MY19 Prius gets updated designs for the front and rear fascias, incorporating new bumpers, sharper LED headlights, and new LED tail-light clusters.
Rounding out the changes are improvements to cabin elements like a new infotainment system, new cloth upholstery for the entry-level variant, and improvements to the ergonomics, Toyota says.
The new 7.0-inch touchscreen runs the familiar interface seen in the company's latest models like the Camry and Corolla, and allows for pinch and swipe gestures. As standard it's hooked up to a 10-speaker JBL sound system, and features in-built satellite navigation.
Other key features of the new infotainment system include SUNA live traffic updates, AM/FM/DAB+ radio, USB and AUX inputs, Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, along with access to Toyota Link apps. There's also Siri eyes-free mode for iPhones.
All models also score the Toyota Safety Sense driver assistance suite, which incorporates autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, and auto high-beam. That's on top of seven airbags and a rear-view camera.
"Since we launched the original Prius in Australia in late 2001, this innovative fuel-efficient small car has been bought by over 20,000 customers who value its optimal balance of performance and fuel efficiency, refinement, styling and practical five-door hatch design," said Sean Hanley, vice president for sales and marketing at Toyota Australia.
"This update to the fourth generation model that brings with it enhanced contemporary styling and the latest multimedia technology will add more customer appeal to the Prius hatch, ensuring it continues to contribute to Toyota's dominance of the hybrid vehicle market."
As before, the Prius is powered by a 1.8-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine hooked up to two electric motors – one acting as a generator and the assisting the front wheels – with a combined power output of 90kW.
