Volkswagen Australia is currently offering 2018 model-year Golf R hatches and wagons with a $3000 factory bonus for a limited time.
Following the recent announcement of drive-away pricing for the front-wheel drive Golf GTI, the German manufacturer has introduced a new offer on its flagship all-wheel drive performance duo, available until March 31.
To give an indication, the MY19 Golf R hatchback is currently being advertised for $63,050 drive-away in metropolitan Melbourne (postcode 3000), which varies depending on state.
Being limited to MY18 models means the factory bonus does not apply to the Golf R Special Edition – which brings additional specification including an Akrapovic titanium exhaust system – though the local arm says recent shipping delays mean some 170 units of the 400-unit allocation are only just becoming available now.
Like MY19 versions, the 2018 Golf R is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 213kW and 380Nm, sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed DSG automatic.
Volkswagen claims the hatchback can sprint from 0-100 in just 4.8 seconds, while the slightly larger and heavier wagon manages the same feat in 5.0 seconds.
Standard equipment includes a 9.2-inch 'Columbus' satellite navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch Active Info driver's display, leather trim, heated front seats, LED headlights and tail-lights (the latter with sweeping indicators), along with 19-inch 'Spielberg' alloy wheels.
