That's less than the 86 makes, although there's plenty more torque on tap.

Hot on the heels of the flagship A90 Supra reveal in Detroit, the official Toyota website in Japan appears to have unveiled outputs for the cheaper four-cylinder options set to follow it.

In its home market, the basic Supra SZ will be powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 145kW of power, good for a 6.5-second run to 100km/h.

That's less power than the 86 offers from its oft-discussed (complained about) naturally-aspirated engine, although the 320Nm available between 1450 and 4200rpm in the base Supra comfortably usurps the 212Nm you get in the Toyobaru twins.

Jumping to the top-spec four-cylinder in Japan, dubbed the SZ-R, boosts those outputs to 190kW and 400Nm for a claimed 5.2 second run to 100km/h. Those figures match the BMW Z4 30i with which the car shares its B48 engine.

An eight-speed automatic is standard across the board. Interestingly, the more powerful four-pot Supra is 40kg heavier than the base model, tipping the scales at 1450kg.

It's worth bearing in mind, these figures are for the Japanese market and therefore may not carry over to ours. We'd suggest there'd be a few tuners keen to get their hands on the cheapest-possible Supra, but Toyota hasn't confirmed whether the four-cylinder will be making the journey Down Under.

The new Supra won't make it to our shores until late 2019, sourced from Austria. Only 300 will reach local showrooms in the first 12 months, with pricing still to be revealed.

Although it won't be outright cheap, Toyota has confirmed it's aiming for a relatively affordable price point.

"Our target is not to make it so high that nobody buys it, that's not our intention. The sweet spot, we are now finding that sweet spot," Vincent Dewaersegger, senior manager of product communication at Toyota Europe, said in September.
