Photographers have snapped the first images of the updated Audi Q7 this week, giving us a preview of what to expect from the seven-seat SUV's mid-life refresh.

The most significant changes appear to be up the front, with this prototype sporting a revised grille, headlight and bumper design that looks quite similar to that of the related Q8.

Expect other refinements to include a new LED daytime-running light signature, potentially the new stripy motif from the Q8 and new A1, along with new alloy wheel designs filling the arches.

Less noticeable changes can be seen at the rear, with the main points likely to be a subtly revised bumper design and re-jigged LED tail-light clusters – though this vehicle has the current ones for now.

While there are no images of the interior, photographers reported the dashboard was covered up in this vehicle, suggesting changes are being made here too.

Our guess is the Q7 will adopt Audi's stacked dual-screen cockpit as per the e-tron quattro, A6, A7, A8 and Q8, which seems like a no-brainer considering its near-flagship status.

We're also counting on the introduction of Audi's latest and greatest infotainment and driver assistance technologies, along with mild-hybrid systems hooked up to the existing turbocharged petrol and diesel powertrain options offered globally for improved efficiency and reduced emissions.

Expect the updated Q7 to be revealed in full sometime next year, perhaps as early as the Geneva motor show in March 2019.
