Honda has previously admitted the new Civic project is running a tad slower than planned. The next-generation of Honda's best known model is expected in 2012 and spy photographers sent us photos of this mule testing today.
The photos were taken whilst the relatively strange looking Civic was performing brake tests in heavy rain. Our sources say this is in fact the new 2012 Honda Civic however it's still wearing the current Civic's clothes for public testing.
Nonetheless you can still notice the front bumper is already the new one, just hidden under the old one. Hence the front looks longer.
There is also a noticeable bulge on the hood to give enough room for a new engine or test equipment. Wheel base seems to be the same but the rear fenders are slightly wider.
Exhaust pipes are also missing from the rear bumper.
No doubt Honda will also use the hybrid engine out of the new Honda CR-Z for the new Civic.
