2019 Hyundai Kona pricing and specs

Upgraded range sees the introduction of satellite navigation and a new entry-level variant.

Hyundai Australia has announced details of the updated 2019 Kona line-up, headlined by the addition of a cheaper new base grade, enhanced infotainment and price hikes of up to $3000 across the carryover range.

For the first time in Australia, the Kona is available with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation (below), also incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with DAB+ digital radio – this setup is now standard on the Active, Elite and Highlander variants.

The navigation service incorporates SUNA live traffic updates, and a 10-year maps update plan. In addition to the larger display and in-built navigation, the Kona also gets a new eight-speaker audio system by Krell, and a USB charging port in the centre console.

At the pointy end of the range, the Highlander grade gets an electric glass sunroof as standard, which can be switched out for a Phantom Black two-tone roof finish as a no-cost option – the contrasting roof option is no longer available on the Elite.

The top-spec Kona also gets Hyundai's Auto Link Premium service for compatible smartphones, allowing owners to use additional functions through the app – including remote engine start, remote access to doors and climate controls, setting geo-fencing alerts, and sending emergency alert messages when the vehicle is in an accident.

New to the range is the base Kona Go (top), bringing the entry price down by $1000 to $23,500 before on-road costs.

Standard equipment on the entry-level grade are LED daytime-running lights, 16-inch steel wheels, a rear-view camera, automatic headlights, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, 7.0-inch multimedia display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, and the standard version of Hyundai's Auto Link.

The Go also gets six airbags, and all your regular electronic safety aids like stability control, and hill-start assist, though active safety technologies remain an optional extra on both the Go and Active grades.

For $1500, buyers of the two entry-level trims can opt for the SmartSense Pack, which adds autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and a driver fatigue monitor. Adaptive cruise control, meanwhile, remains off the cards for the time being.

Additionally, specifying the SmartSense package adds power-folding side mirrors with heating.

Like the wider range, the Kona Go is available with both a 110kW/180Nm 2.0-litre 'MPi' naturally-aspirated petrol engine with front-wheel drive, and a 130kW/265Nm 1.6-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine with all-wheel drive.

In terms of price increases, the Active and Elite grades are now $1000 dearer as part of the MY19 changes, while the flagship Highlander is between $2500 and $3000 more expensive than the outgoing range.
