According to the report, Kia design director, Peter Schreyer is enthusiastic about the notion of the two future variants.
"I would love to do station wagon and coupe versions of the car," said Mr Schreyer."The station wagon would only really work for Europe but the coupe would work in the US."
It's also rumoured that Kia is currently considering a name change for the Optima (as it's known in the US) which could be sold under the Magentis nameplate in Europe. Another source says Optima could be renamed the K5.
The 2011 Kia Optima is expected to hit European showrooms within the first half of next year. The car will feature a blend of petrol and diesel powerplants, identical to those found under the bonnet of the upcoming Kia Sportage. In Europe, those include an entry-level 1.7-litre and 2.0-litre diesel. A 2.0-litre petrol engine will also be available.
