BMW 225xe Active Tourer not for Australia
Plug-in MPV off the cards for our market
The BMW 225xe iPerformance Active Tourer will not be joining the local line-up anytime soon, the company has confirmed.
Speaking with CarAdvice, BMW Australia's product communications manager, Adam Davis, said the luxury marque will soldier on with just one engine variant in the facelifted 2 Series Active Tourer range – the 220i.
"We’re sticking with the single model strategy on 2 Active Tourer for the facelift," Davis said.
Power in the 225xe comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder turbo petrol paired to a 65kW electric motor, making for combined outputs of 165kW and 385Nm – it's the same powertrain as the related Mini Countryman S E All4, which also at this stage is unavailable in Australia.
Thanks to the 7.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the 225xe claims an all-electric range of up to 45 kilometres, and a top speed of 125km/h in electric mode. Fuel consumption, meanwhile, is rated at 2.5L/100km on the combined cycle.
For Australia, the only version of the updated 2 Series Active Tourer will be the 220i – which features a 141kW/280Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, priced from $49,500 before on-road costs.
The facelifted 220i Active Tourer is on sale now.
