With a compact boxer-four engine, a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, the 86 represents a throwback to the old-days of driving. David loves the driving position, but wasn’t a fan of the cheap tyres and low-rent cabin.

Barring one hiccup, Owen has had a trouble-free run with his Skoda Yeti. Although it can be hesitant at low speed, the DSG gearbox combines well with the 1.2-litre engine. Most useful of all, though, is the versatile seating arrangement.
