Pumped-up Peugeot crossover mule spied

How cool does this PSA test mule - being hot-weather tested in the south of Europe - look?

Beneath this Peugeot 208 body is probably test architecture for the expected Peugeot 1008 baby crossover that'll soon slot into its range below the 2008.

Should such a car materialise, it'd give the French company a rival to the Nissan Juke and co. Though, of course, this might also be a very early development of the second-generation 2008.

The 208-based crossover you see here will likely come with front-wheel drive and use the same drivetrains as its city hatch brethren.

But what we're into is this test mule, which adds flared arches and a jacked-up ride to the 208. PSA should just launch this as a road car, right? Seriously, look at it!

It's an interesting time for the revitalised French brand. We've already received spy images of the Passat-rivalling new Peugeot 508, while the new 3008 and 5008 crossovers are making waves.

Peugeot's parent company also just took over German company Opel, from General Motors, and is working to better differentiate its existing Peugeot, Citroen and DS brands.
