According to monthly VFACTS figures released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive industries this week, the 'sports car over $200,000' class grew 19.9 per cent in August, and is up 10.6 per cent year-to-date (YTD) to 1163 units.
This is compared to total market growth of 3.0 per cent this year, which has the market on track for an all-time record of around 1.2 million sales.
Leading the exotic car pack is the Porsche 911 with 305 sales this year, up from 279 this time last year. Next is Ferrari, for which there is no individual model break-down, but which as a brand is running even at a supply-restricted 121.
This is ahead of the BMW 6 Series with 120 units, making it one of the few cars in the class to go backwards (134), the Mercedes-AMG GT on 104 units (up from just 19 this time last year) and the Lamborghini Huracan/Aventador (104, up from 77).
Other ‘strong’ sellers at the top end of town to show growth are the Audi R8 (42, up 40 per cent), Bentley Continental (62, up 68 per cent) and McLaren range (50, up 100 per cent). Rolls-Royce has sold 12 two-doors (the Wraith), up from 11 this time last year.
On a side note, the market figures tell a similar story in other high-roller vehicle segments. Sales of upper-large luxury cars are up 23 per cent this year, led by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (195, even), new BMW 7 Series (193, up from 51) and Maserati Quattroporte (45, up 29 per cent).
Furthermore, sales of upper large SUVs north of $100,000 are up 58 per cent this year, led by the dominant Mercedes-Benz GLS and its GL predecessor with 812 units, up from 468. This is ahead of the Range Rover (325, up 17 per cent) and Lexus LX (178, up 58 per cent).
Further up the chain, Bentley has already found 22 homes for the Bentayga.
