Those earlier shots, snapped aboard a cargo plane bound for the Frankfurt motor show where the new Prius will debut, offered a clear look at both ends, revealing much of the fourth-generation hybrid’s sportier styling.
Today’s teaser image hints at the hatch’s tall LED tail lamps, which begin deep into the rear bumper and hook up into the rear quarter panels as they extend toward the tailgate.
There’s little else to see in this teaser, although we can likely expect a few more before the 2015 Frankfurt motor show opens its doors on September 17.
Sales rocketed to 18,000 the following year, and expanding availability across the global market, along with additional hybrid models in the Toyota and Lexus ranges, saw cumulative sales grow to over one million by 2007 and nearly five million by 2012.
Japan is the leading market for Toyota and Lexus hybrids, with 3.89 million total sales, followed by North America on 2.79 million and Europe with 930,000. Australia accounts for 77,500 Toyota and Lexus hybrid sales.
The Prius hatch remains the best seller with 3.5 million, followed by Prius C (1.08m), Prius V (582,400) and Camry Hybrid (528,300). Camry Hybrid is the most popular in Australia with 33,250 sales, followed by the Prius hatch on nearly 20,000.
