Ford Fusion/Mondeo facelift revealed in corporate presentation

The first facelift for the current Ford Fusion sedan, and possibly its Mondeo siblings, has been published online.

An anonymous Autoblog reader pointed out a slide pack that's available on Ford's corporate website and which was originally part of a presentation given by the company at the JP Morgan Auto Conference this month in New York City.

Among a series of slides on the benefits of worldwide integration, the One Ford policy and regional manufacturing hubs, is a slide about "bundled sourcing" featuring a seat frame that's used in current versions of the Fiesta, EcoSport and Escape (known as the Kuga in Australia), as well as what looks like a facelifted version of the Fusion sedan.

The zoomed-in image above confirms some observations we made when we published spy photos of the updated Fusion undergoing real-world testing earlier this year in Detroit.

At the front, the facelifted Fusion features a reworked grille and subtly reshaped headlights. Underneath, the lower air intake is now more tightly integrated with the lower set of driving or fog lights, and is flanked by L-shaped chromed bezels to the side.

These presentation slides don't show us what changes have been wrought to the car's rear, but the earlier spy photos indicate that the tail-lights will now feature chrome spears in the centre section.

The second-generation Fusion sedan went on sale in North America in 2012. The closely related Mondeo hatch and wagon was launched in 2014 and went on sale locally this year.

It's expected that the updated Fusion sedan will head into showrooms throughout North America in 2016. It's not known when, or if, the Fusion's visual updates will flow through to the Mondeo range sold throughout much of the rest of the world.
