In the video above, a camouflaged Sports Series prototype is shown haring around a snow covered test track with the rasp of the new car's engine performing duties as the teaser's soundtrack.

The Sports Series is currently being developed under the codename P13, and is envisioned as McLaren's rival to the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT.

As such, the new Sports Series will be priced under the Super Series, which currently consists of the Asia-only 625C, the global 650S and the limited edition 675LT.

It's likely that there will be a fair degree of parts shared between the Sports Series and Super Series.

Details about the Sports Series are still hard to pin down, but McLaren has confirmed that it will feature a carbonfibre chassis and will be powered by V8 motor placed behind the passenger cell.

According to AutoExpress, the Sports Series will head into showrooms from October this year.

The British magazine believes that the range will initially be offered in two power specifications, both starting with the number 5 — in horsepower. This means that the Sports Series will have anywhere between 373kW (500hp) and 447kW (599hp) at its disposal.
