With Nissan Motorsport team owner and driver, Todd Kelly, at the wheel, the Nissan Altima V8 Supercar was given a shakedown to test the car’s aerodynamics package ahead of the 2013 V8 Supercar series which will mark the company’s return to Australian touring car racing after a 21-year absence.
Nissan Australia boss Bill Peffer was highly enthusiastic about the car’s performance potential, telling media last week that “It’s going to be a jet”.
Nissan Motorsport PR chief Jeff Fisher told CarAdvice that, “Nissan is gearing up for a global embrace of motorsport as the ultimate expression of 'excitement through innovation'”.
“We’ve come prepared and we’ve mapped out a plan to achieve our goals and have the backing of the powerful Nismo organisation.”
The Nissan Altima will be going head-to-head in next year's series with the two existing Australian rivals from Ford Performance Racing (FPR) and the Holden Racing Team, as well as the Mercedes-Benz entrants from Erebus Motorsport.
