The 508 HYbrid4 shares its diesel-electric powertrain with its hybrid siblings. A 120kW/300Nm 2.0-litre engine powers the front wheels while a 27kW/200Nm electric motor is mounted on the rear axle, providing a maximum combined output of 147kW of power and 450Nm of torque.
The set-up allows 508 HYbrid4 owners to select between four drive modes: Auto, Sport, 4WD and ZEV (100 per cent electric). On the combined cycle, the hybrid sedan uses 3.6 litres of fuel per 100km, making it almost eight per cent more efficient than the petrol-electric Toyota Prius.
The HYbrid4 variant looks almost identical to the rest of the Peugeot 508 range, with a subtle badge on the grille and the internal driving mode control knob among the most obvious differentiators.
The boot is noticeably smaller to accommodate the hybrid hardware, however, reduced from 497 litres to 355 litres, and falling from 1533 litres to just under 1400 litres with the rear seats folded forward.
Peugeot Australia's Jaedene Hudson confirmed the local division's interest in the 508 HYbrid4, but said like the 3008 HYbrid4 and 508 RXH, the sedan is yet to complete hot-weather testing. Until that process occurs, Hudson says Peugeot Australia is not in a position to make any decisions about the cars or speculate on timing.
