Fisker Karma new variants on the way

Fisker has only just launched its Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports sedan, yet the company now has plans to develop the Karma into other variants, including a Karma-based crossover and a convertible version, which is said to be based on the Fisker Sunset Concept.

According to What Car? in the UK, the next Fisker model to be released will be a crossover. It's unknown what the new model will be called, however, it is believed it will be built as a jumped-up version of the Karma sedan. The new crossover is expected to be unveiled in concept form at next month's 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

A convertible Fisker Karma would be based on the Fisker Sunset convertible that was first unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. The convertible will apparently feature a folding hard-top metal roof and showcase a coupe layout when the roof is up. The production Sunset will, according to reports, go on sale in 2013.

Another upcoming model in the pipeline at Fisker is the Project Nina sedan, which is also said to be headed for the markets in 2013. The new model will be like a baby Karma, showcasing a smaller sports sedan platform and a cheaper price tag. This platform is also likely to spawn a number of separate variants.

For now though, the Fisker Karma is currently on sale in the US, with prices starting at $US95,900 ($91,600). There are no plans for the model to be sold Down Under, however, the Project Nina variant will reportedly be headed our way.
